Tractebel Engineering France has signed a contract with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, for the Gurara dam project in Nigeria. This contract covers the Owner's Engineer tasks and supervision of the dam construction work, the hydroelectric power station and the development of 2000 ha of irrigation bordering the reservoir.
This multifunctional project was initially planned to supply water to the capital via a water transfer system. However, the project proved large enough to provide a greater regular flow than required, making it possible not only to produce electricity (30 MW will be injected into the national grid) but also to irrigate for 12 000 hectares of land.
