Tractebel Engineering, within a consortium (Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (Fr) and ELIA (Belgian high-voltage Grid Operator), has been entrusted by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) with conducting studies relating to the interconnection of the electric systems of 4 Gulf States: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The outcome of these studies is that the 4 electric systems, which have operated independently up to now, will be interconnected and synchronised, while their stabilised performance will be ensured. The powering up of the interconnected systems is scheduled for April 2009, at the end of a period of 6 months allotted for the completion of the project.
