Michèle is a civil engineer in mechanical engineering who first joined the nuclear side of Tractebel Engineering to develop in-depth expertise in the effects of catastrophic events, such as damage to the core of a reactor (example: Three Mile Island). In 1999, Michèle Auglaire decided to apply for a position that would give her responsability for a team of 15 engineers specialised in thermo-hydraulics, working mainly as a support to nuclear power plants. Ever since, she has thrown herself into both of these activities. "Such a narrow speciality can lead to feeling lonely," she explains, "which is why working together as a team can be so interesting. Being an expert is positive for managing a group of specialists. It is important to understand their motivations and expectations. My second responsability also offers regular contact with operations and operators, which is stimulating". What are the challenges? "The constant need to stay abreast of developments and to excel, but also to reconcile technical and human considerations".
