Study on the storage of spent fuel for EDF
Description: Electricité de France (EDF) selected Tractebel Engineering and a local partner to carry out studies on the storage of spent fuel while waiting for its future reprocessing or burial. Our intervention also enabled EDF to acquire precious experience managing facilities downstream of the cycle.

Evaluation of a radioactive waste repository
Thanks to its leading expertise in the management of nuclear waste, Tractebel Engineering, evaluated the feasibility of the project for a repository for radioactive waste of low and medium activity for the Brazilian nuclear power stations of Eletronuclear. Its mission was to evaluate the feasibility of the concept, the suitability of the site and to identify the alternatives and potential pitfalls. Tractebel Engineering relied on the support of its Brazilian affiliate, Leme Engenharia.

Architect Engineering for CEA Cadarache
A consortium between Tractebel Engineering (leader) and ATR-Ingénierie wins a contract to modify the STAR facility at CEA Cadarache. This installation has been commissioned for the treatment and conditioning of UNGG and EL fuel assemblies and will now be adapted to extend the operations to other types of fuel assemblies. Our mission consists in the set up of the basic design, the detailed design and the safety case, the assistance for procurement, the follow-up of realisation, the assistance for commissioning and the reception of equipment.

Definition of Tihange NPP new resins conditioning process
Electrabel entrusted Tractebel Engineering with the definition of the future resins conditioning process to be applied for the 2008 campaign. Our mission is divided in several steps: performing a technical-economic analysis to compare potential conditioning solutions, selecting the most appropriate conditioning solution and perform the corresponding design studies, writing the technical specifications and select the contractor, follow-up during the on-site installation and the start-up tests.

Upgrade of a waste management facility in Russia
Belgatom - I.R.E. consortium, together with local subcontractors, wins an EC contract to upgrade a waste management facility in Russia. The 3 years project consists of three main tasks: support NPO RADON to improve the performance and the safety level of the present radwaste management system design and provide assistance for the procurement of the upgraded equipment, support NPO RADON for preparing the PSAR for the licensing of the renewed installations, and assess the radiological impact of the nuclear installations in an area of 50 km radius around Sergiev Posad waste department.

Collaboration with PURAM (public agency for waste management in Hungary)
Since 2004, we are helping PURAM to define waste acceptance criteria for conditioned waste of Paks NPP. Today, we are providing PURAM with an outline of the key process parameters that must be controlled on site to ensure that the conditioning concrete correctly immobilises and embeds the filters and miscellaneous solid waste.

Support to BELGOPROCESS for qualification files and waste characterisation
For several years, we are present on the Dessel site to assist BELGOPROCESS, the Belgian Company specialised in the processing and storage of radioactive waste. Our contract has been renewed for 2006 and covers two tasks: the set-up of qualification files describing the functioning and operating conditions of waste treatment & conditioning installations and the development of characterisation methodologies for the waste fluxes processed in the Belgoprocess installations.
