Refurbishment of the internal structures of the Tihange 3 cooling tower
Abnormal failures of the internal supporting concrete structure in the cooling tower of Tihange 3 lead to an overload of the clogged packing and a concrete structure presenting lacks in design, resistance and durability. Electrabel entrusted Tractebel Engineering with an extended analysis of structure and decided to replace the clogged packing and, for the 1st time in the world, the supporting concrete beams. After additional studies, the site works were completed 2 days ahead of schedule. Thanks to a strict organisation, the Zero Significant Accident Target was met.
